Icon was proud to have been involved in a major programme of work at the 15th Asian Games for two of the world's leading brands, Samsung and Nike. The Games, which were staged during the first two weeks of December 2006 in Doha, Qatar, were a huge success with 38 countries competing in 39 different sports. Icon was responsible for designing, producing and presenting the branding for Samsung who were one of the 4 Prestige Partners for the event, one of the largest and most prestigious sporting events ever held in the region.
Icon's role included ensuring that Samsung had a very strong presence around Doha and involved the branding of six high visibility vehicles that were seen driving around the city during the Games. Icon also had a major role to play in ensuring that the sponsors of the Chinese team, Nike maximized their return on their involvement with the Games. Icon's event management expertise was required to develop Nike's hospitality programme. A five bedroom villa in Doha was converted into a fully functional hospitality venue, which included Team China Merchandise Area, a Games Room and a fully functional kitchen complete with a dedicated Chinese chef, which catered for up to 500 people each day.
All the operations, production and installation for the event was arranged and managed by Icon's Middle East office based in Doha.
“It was a huge challenge for us to work with such major brands as Samsung and Nike and our work on the Asian Games has further strengthened our growing reputation in the region,†commented Andrew Hodson, Icon's Sales and Marketing Director. “We are developing our expertise and range of services for our clients as well as developing specialist expertise in a wide number of different sports and events."
